Where do you keep your iron when not ironing?

Well, in Russia it's very common to place it onto windowsill. There is no room on the shelves because old apartments are TINY (imagine kitchen where you stay in the middle and could make these actions without moving from the floor: close the door or window, take food from the fridge, cook it, wash dishes. You will need only to turn around. The kitchen in my apartment was always 6 square meters, that's one of the reasons I moved).

On the one hand, many people never use windowsill so there often is spare room for an iron. On the other, you can easily see where to find your iron in the case of Jammed Emergency.

I like to walk through the alleys near apartment buildings and watch irons in the windows.
